In this fast pacing time, everyone needs some entertainment but also wants to spend less time booking tickets at the counter, so for this, I've developed this app.

Project Overview

The Project
Cinetime is movie ticketing app that allows users to book their favourite shows from their home

Project duration
January 2022 to October 2022

Project Overview

The Problem
Busy working professionals and youngsters lack of time to book offline shows.

The Goal
Design a movie ticketing app for users that allows users to book their favourite shows.

Project Overview

My role
UX designer designing an app booking moviesshows from conception to delivery.

Responsibilities
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

Understanding the user

● User research
● Personas
● Problem statements
● User journey maps

User research : Summary

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was working adults who don’t have time to visit offline counter to book tickets.

This user group confirmed initial assumptions about movie ticketing app, but research also revealed that time was not the only factor limiting users from booking tickets from home. Other user problems included obligations, interests, or challenges that make it difficult to book offline tickets.

User research : pain points

1

Time

Working adults are too busy to spend time on offline booking tickets.

2

Accessability

Platforms for booking movie tickets are not equipped with assistive technologies.

3

IA

Text-heavy menus in apps are often difficult to read and book from.

Persona : Dhonesh

Problem statement

Dhonesh is a busy working adult who needs easy access to book his favorite shows because they have no time to book tickets from counter.

User journey map

Mapping Dhonesh’s user journey revealed how helpful it would be for users to have access to a dedicated movie ticketing app.

Starting
the design

● Paper wireframes
● Digital wireframes
● Low-fidelity prototype
● Usability studies

Paper wireframes

Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen of the app on paper ensured that the elements that made it to digital wireframes would be wellsuited to address user pain points. For the home screen, I prioritized a quick and easy booking process to help users save time.

From these paper wireframes some elements taken to make the final homepage

Digital wireframes

For the initial design phase I made the interface more clearer from feedback and findings.

The easily available options for language which helps users to choose their prefered language

Showing latest released movies to user so that they easily book from here

Digital wireframes

Search bar provided to easily search their favourite shows

More other options provided for the users to easily access and smooth process for booking.

Some more other options provided

Low fidelity prototype

Using the completed set of digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype. The primary user flow I connected was selecting and booking movie ticket, so the prototype could be used in a usability study.

Usability study : findings

I conducted two rounds of usability study first round help me to refine the low fidelity prototype and the second round help me to refine the high fidelity prototype.

Round 1 findings

3

User want to book tickets quickly

User need the interface of he homapage simple to understand

User need accessible options for date and time

Round 2 findings

2

User need more clarity on location changing option

User wants to share their booking details

Refining
the design

● Mockups
● High-fidelity prototype
● Accessibility

Mockups

Initial design require a bit customisation but after usability study I make the homepage more clearer also while landing in the homepage they can see the trending shows.

Before usability study

After usability study

Mockups

The second usability study reveals frustration with not sharing option as well as no option to going back to homepage direct so for this I provided a sharing option of their booking details also a home icon to go back direct to homepage.

Before usability study

After usability study

Mockups

High fidelity prototype

The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flows for selecting a movie and booking tickets. It also met user needs for sharing their tickets with anyone easily.

Accessibility consideration

1

Used icons for easily navigate to more options.

2

Provided text with icons to make screen readable for visually impaired users.

3

Used detailed structure for selecting seats with more options to make payment easily .

Going forward

● Takeaways
● Next
step

Takeaways

Impact:
The app makes users easily accessible which they are looking for

One quote from peer feedback:
“The app’s interface and everything is so easy also there is almost every options available for booking”

What I learned:
The initial phase looks so easy but with every usability study there always something which requires improvement so it’s a continues learning

Next steps

1

Conduct another round of usability studies to know whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed.

2

Conduct more user research to know whether there is more areas to improve.
